How to Choose Neck Strips for Your Barbershop

Neck strips sit between the client’s neck and the cutting cape. A useful sample test checks how the strip fits, tears and stays in place during a haircut—not just how the unopened package looks.

Neck strips, neck paper and the format you need

In U.S. barber supply, disposable neck strips is the familiar name for the neck paper used under a cape. Products sold under that name can arrive as perforated rolls or folded strips. Reusable cloth neck strips are a different format; confirm that the quotation is for the disposable product you need.

Deyi’s neck paper line uses a perforated stretch-roll format. Match the proposed sample to your shop’s routine and dispenser instead of assuming every brand uses the same size or closure.

How to test size and stretch

Record the relaxed width and length, then test the usable stretch without tearing or leaving an uncomfortable tight edge. Ask a U.S. supplier quote to show inches and millimeters so dimensions can be compared directly. Do not compare one supplier’s stretched length with another’s relaxed length.

Test the closure, perforation and comfort

• Separate several sheets from the start and middle of a sample roll. The tear should follow the perforation.
• Fit the strip comfortably without pulling it tight. Check the closure using the method supplied for that reference.
• If the strip has adhesive ends, join them as directed; do not assume the adhesive should attach to skin.
• Check comfort and whether the strip stays in position with the cape during normal head movement.
• For services where the neck area may become damp, test a sample in that use case. Absorbent does not automatically mean waterproof.

How to use disposable neck strips

1. Take a fresh strip and fit it comfortably around the neck.
2. Secure it according to the product’s closure instructions.
3. Fasten the cape over the strip and fold the exposed paper edge over the cape collar.
4. Discard it after the service and use a fresh strip for each client. Replace a torn or soaked strip sooner.

Keep the cape clean as well. A disposable strip is not a substitute for cape care or chemical protective equipment.

Compare price per service, not just per roll

Record damaged or unusable strips during sampling. A lower pack price can lose its advantage if the perforation wastes sheets or the closure needs frequent replacement.
